Please make a statement in your email that you agree to the statements made in this agreement and that by submitting the agreement electronically, you have in effect affixed your signature to the agreement. This will avoid the need for paper copies.
The mentor and protege should make changes and additions to the Agreement based on the personal goals of the protege and contributions that the mentor is comfortable making.
This agreement remains in effect for twelve months. The agreement may be terminated at any time by either the mentee/protege or mentor.
Terms
The greatest value of a mentoring agreement is that it builds trust, clarifies expectations and reduces the possibility of disappointment or resentment. Clear definition of the mentoring relationship, specific expectations, and measures of success will root the relationship on solid ground and will provide a model of good communication in future endeavors for both the mentor and the protege.
The Blumentoring relationship is designed to enhance the professional experience and development of the participants. Participation is strictly voluntary and without financial compensation or expectation. Your signature at the bottom of this agreement signifies your acceptance of the terms and conditions that govern participation in the program.
The duration of the formal mentoring relationship between participants in the program is twelve months from date of signing. Mentor and protege agree to actively participate in the program for the full duration of their engagement. Both will complete/return periodic surveys to BluMentor.
Mentor and protege agree to be available, responsive to each other's needs and willing to adjust schedules as necessary in order to achieve the minimum number of contact hours described below.
Mentor and protege agree to establish 'live contact' for a minimum of two contact hours each month. Four contact hours each month is advised. It is recommended that the minimum contact hours be composed of (at least) two separate and distinct sessions each month.
Live contact, as it is defined for this program includes (and may not be limited to): in-person meetings, telephone conversations, videoconferences, voice-only conference calls, e-mail, or online chats.
Information shared between the participants within the context of the formal mentoring relationship is considered to be confidential and should not be shared outside the relationship without expressed permission from the other participant(s).
An individual pairing of mentor and protege may prove to be unworkable or unsatisfactory to either/both participants. In this case either participant (or both) may seek a different 'partner' pairing during the relationship. A respectful letter of disengagement must be sent to the partner.
A mentor's role is limited to the furnishing of opinions, guidance, advice and suggestions. Proteges may take information given by a mentor under advisement in making personal, professional and career decisions.
It is the responsibility of the mentor to ensure that all opinions, guidance, advice and suggestions provided as part of the formal mentoring relationship, are accurate to the best of their knowledge and do not recommend or suggest course(s) of actions for the protege that could be construed as illegal, unethical or immoral.
Participants accept responsibility for any costs incurred as part of the formal relationship, including, but not limited to: postage, telephone calls, travel, meals, conference/seminar registration, etc.
Please bear in mind that mentors are volunteers and are not experts or paid consultants. Mentors are not responsible for business, career, personal or other decisions made as a result of the mentoring relationship. Mentors give only advice and/or information from their experience, perspective, etc. Mentors do not make decisions for proteges. Proteges take full responsibility for actions taken based on their mentoring experience.
